Halloween Helpers
It’s been a busy Halloween for our brindle bullie, she was recruited to appear at half a dozen Halloween parties, including a very special party that I’d like to take a minute to rave about. A lot of people want to help out homeless pets, but they may not have the time or the money to [...]

Bulldog Pirate Abbie

"I wanted to be Batman..."

I thought she looked so adorable, but she obviously thought that being a pirate was below her status! LOL, such a cutie, I had to kiss that silly nose several times during this setup!

Bulldog Skin Care
Most dog breeds have skin problems and English bulldogs have several. Some of these problems are merely annoying, while others can cause severe discomfort and even pain. In this article, we’ll highlight a few of the most common skin conditions that your bulldog is likely to experience. We’ll also provide a few useful tips that [...]

Aging English Bulldog Care
Arthritis is caused by a loss of the cartilage surrounding the dog’s joints. As the joint’s cartilage wears away, the bones scrape against each other causing pain. By helping your bulldog rebuild some of the lost cartilage you can help ease his pain. Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) are the three best supplements you can offer [...]

History Of The English Bulldog
The English bulldog has a long and storied history. Several theories regarding the breed’s origin have been introduced. Some are plausible and supported by documentation; some are easily dismissed. Most experts agree that the bulldog is a cross between a mastiff and a pug. However, some experts contend that the bulldog is a descendant of [...]

Bulldog Basics: Overview Of The Breed
Originally hailing from England, the bulldog is instantly recognizable, if slightly misunderstood. They have played an important role in English society for hundreds of years, first in a sport known as bull baiting and later, as a popular mascot, symbolizing the resolve of a tenacious spirit. In this article, we’ll describe the unique appearance of [...]

Snuggly Afternoon Siesta

A snuggly afternoon siesta, and a perfect example of why I adore the English Bulldog breed. They absolutely adore being close to people, and make spectacular therapy dogs!

Abbie will crawl right up next to the kids, and snuggle up against their chest. She's such a lovebug.

Finding the Perfect Bulldog Puppy
Thinking about adding a new bulldog puppy to your family? Well, there’s a few things you need to know to make sure you find the perfect puppy for your home. If you want a good puppy, start with a good breeder. When you find a potential breeder, ask if you can visit the puppy’s parents in [...]

Bulldog Tongue

This picture made me laugh because of the mechanics behind it. Abbie, being an English Bulldog, has some very floppy lips.
Abbie will lick the outside of her lips, and then roll her tongue up under each floppy side to catch the yummy bits that try to hide up there.
Super funny to watch in person.

Socializing Adult Bulldogs
Puppies are easy to socialize. You take them to some puppy obedience classes and they get to interact with other people and puppies. But adult dogs can be a real challenge, particularly if they are rescues or rehomed dogs that are already coming into a new situation, but may also have an unknown background such [...]

Bulldog Abbie's straight tail

I took this picture to show what a straight tailed bulldog looks like. Most bulldogs have very tight, corkscrew tails, but Abbie has an unusually straight tail.
It's not a normal dog tail however. The joints were genetically fused together from birth so she cant raise it up above the level of her butt, and she's careful about how she sits on it so it doesn't get accidently bent or broken. It's rather like having a stiff stick stuck to her butt all the time, but she still wags it like a fool when she's happy!
To be honest I maybe should have taken the vet's advice and docked it at the lowest fused point to protect her from accidently breaking it, but she is a pampered pet and I believe I can help her keep it safe.

Daisy Doodle Bugg the Bulldog with a big heart
This is Daisy Doodle Bugg, an english bulldog on a mission! She wants to be on the cover of the next Hallmark Card and you can help her. If she wins, her owner plans to donate her prize money to Habitat for Humanity and Adopt-a-bulls (a bulldog rescue group in southern Florida). This gorgeous wrinkly face [...]

Carroty Canine Salad
It’s time for a new puppy friendly recipe! I keep all of Abbie’s favorite dog treat recipes together in a big folder, and when I went to pull it out today this recipe fell out of it. I couldn’t remember exactly the last time that I’d made a 100% veggie dish for Abbie, but I know it’s been [...]

Teaching the Sit
Basic Training - Teaching the ‘Sit’ If you follow Bulldog Abbie’s blog you’ve probably seen at least a couple of pictures of her sitting patiently dressed up in a suit and tie, or wearing a gypsy outfit, as I happily click away with the camera. It doesn’t really matter if you want a champion show dog, or [...]
