Jacob arrives at Haran and agrees to work seven years to marry Laban's daughter Rachel. Laban tricks Jacob into marrying his other daughter Leah and working seven more years for Rachel.

Isaac sends Jacob to Paddan Aram to find a wife. On his way, he encounters God in a dream with a ladder or stairway that reaches from earth to heaven.

In Genesis 21, Isaac is born. When Ishmael mocks Isaac, Sarah has Abraham cast out him and Hagar. Hagar and Ishmael encounter the Angel of God. Abraham and Abimelech resolve a dispute.

In Genesis 20, Abraham stays in Gerar, and he says Sarah is his sister.

God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah, saving Lot and his daughters. The chapter then very briefly describes the subsequent activities of Lot's family.

In Matthew Chapter 5, Jesus starts the Sermon on the Mount. He starts with the Beatitudes, gives illustrations involving salt and light, and moves on to describe God's standard of righteousness.

In Genesis 18, God and two angels visit Abraham, and God repeats his promise of Isaac. He then reveals what He will do to Sodom. Abraham intercedes for Sodom.

God enters a covenant with Abram. He will be God to Abram and to his descendants, and the males are to be circumcised. God changes Abram's name to Abraham, and He changes Sarai's name to Sarah. He repeats his promise to give a son, giving more details.

Still childless after living ten years in Canaan, Sarai suggests Abram might have a child through her maid Hagar. When Hagar conceives, she looks down on Sarai.
Hagar flees from Sarai's discipline. The Angel of the LORD appears, directs Hagar to return, and prophesies about her son Ishmael.

Genesis 15
Abram is concerned that he has no son for an heir. He fears he will need to name a servant as heir. God repeats His promise to make Abram a great nation through his son. God enters a covenant to make Abram's descendants inherit the land. He also prophesies the slavery in Egypt and the Exodus.

Matthew 4
Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where He is tempted by the devil. Afterward, He returns to Galilee and dwells in Capernaum. Jesus begins His ministry, and multitudes from all around follow Him.

Genesis 14
An alliance of Mesopotamian cities attacks and defeats the Cities of the Plain. Along with the rest of the goods and people, they take Lot and his goods. Abram rescues Lot and the others. He meets Melchizedek, priest of God Most High.

Abram returns from Egypt with the gifts he was given in the previous chapter. Abram and Lot were too rich in flocks and herds to live on the same land, so Abram suggests that they separate.
Lot chooses to live in the Cities of the Plain of the Jordan. This decision will cause problems later.
God again promises to make Abram a great nation and give the land to his descendants.
