Fat Burning Furnace vs. Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle
I've lumped Fat Burning Furnace and Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle into one review because they are both very similar in concept. The differences lay in the varying detail provided in execution.

Whereas I feel that Fat Loss 4 Idiots (see my review here) is probably the best diet for most individuals, based on the factors I mention in the review, Fat Burning Furnace and Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle are the best programs for people like me. The strength of Fat Loss 4 Idiots is that you can get started with your weight loss program literally in minutes, and it's a very maintainable and effective diet, thanks to the cheat days. It is also focused solely on the dieting aspect.
Fat Burning Furnace and Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle are a bit different. Fat Burning Furnace is 140 pages, and Burn the Fat is 340 pages. The concepts are similar in each, but Fat Burning Furnace focuses 75 percent of it's pages on the workout routine, followed up with a sensible diet plan. Burn the Fat focuses on both diet and working out, but additionally provides all of the detailed supporting evidence to back its conclusions.
I purchased Burn the Fat about a year ago, and found it fantastic for fact-loving dieters like me. It really changed my outlook on dieting, and brought me back to old equations. You've simply got to burn more calories than you consume, and you've got to conserve your muscle mass while doing so. Fat Burning Furnace, even at 140 pages, is like a simplified version of Burn the Fat. Both enjoyable, both effective, but my preference is for the additional information in Burn the Fat.
If you're tired of the diet hype and just want to get started on something that just plain works, you can't go wrong with either of these books. Out of the two, I'd recommend Burn the Fat first. It's better. Fat Burning Furnace has some technical inaccuracies, but what it boils down to is that the overall approach works.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots: An Actual Legitimate Review
There is a lot of hype surrounding Fat Loss 4 Idiots (much of it is substantiated), but reality is somewhat less favoring. The bottom line is that the greatest strengths of this program -- it's simplicity and cheat days -- are exactly what makes it both perfect and imperfect, depending on what kind of learner / dieter you are.
What I mean by that, as related to the program's key points:
Advantages of this Approach
- This has to be the fastest, drop-dead-simple way to get started with a diet program. You can be ready to go in literally 30 minutes.
- The diet is sustainable, as it allows you three off-diet days during every two-week period. This is huge in my opinion, as it makes the diet easy to follow for the long term
Disadvantages of this Approach
- The "do what I say" style is not the best choice for information consumers who want to know *why* something works, not just how to do it. For those dieters, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is a much better option.
Program Hype
Fat Loss 4 Idiots is the ONLY online weight loss solution that boldly claims you can lose up to 9 pounds every 11 days. That's not 9 pounds in the first 11 days, but 9 pounds during every 11 days on diet (the schedule is 11 days on followed by 3 days off).
Realistically, this results in a bit of a yo-yo effect, but with constant downward trending of weight. That is, drop 9 pounds, gain back 3, drop 9 pounds (for a total loss of 15), gain back 3. So at the end of every 30 days, you can expect to have lost 12 pounds.
This is a pretty high figure for ongoing dieting, so I'm skeptical that the average dieter can achieve these significant drops every month, but even half of that is appealing when you get 3 full cheat days every two weeks!
Other Program Benefits
The biggest benefit in my opinion is the three off days. Three days when you can eat the foods that you crave is enormous, and makes a diet much easier to follow for the long-term. Let's face it, the long-term is when it gets difficult. Those first few months are easy as the weight rolls off. Continued losses get harder and harder.
Another benefit is the simplicity. It's easy and fast to start, and it's a low-maintenance plan because Fat Loss 4 Idiots doesn't place much importance on calorie and carb counting or portion size - instead, the program constantly encourages you to "eat short of being full."
The major difference between the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet plan and other weight loss programs is that the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet formula is specifically designed to confuse your body so it never thinks it's starving.
Don't Forget to Exercise
Fat Loss 4 Idiots does not contain any kind of exercise plan, so make sure you add a sensible workout plan to your diet. A light strength-training routine for newcomers, or high-intensity intervals for folks with an athletic base is a good move.
Conclusion
Fat Loss 4 Idiots, like any other diet, works if you work it. But Fat Loss 4 Idiots is easier to work thanks to its low amount of required maintenance, regular cheat periods, and easy plans.

Update: I've been using this diet for 8 full weeks as of today. As with many diets, the weight flew off at first, totaling 11 pounds in the first two weeks. This loss tapered down to roughly 2 pounds per week at the 4 week mark. After 8 weeks, my total loss is 22.5 pounds.
Yeah, I'm happy with that figure.
It's not the most effective diet I've ever been on, but it has been the easiest to maintain. Knowing that a cheat day is right around the corner makes the on-diet days much easier to get through.
Top Secret Fat Loss Secret: Consumer Review
Top Secret Fat Loss Secret is a relatively new weight loss product to enter the market, and it's quickly gained solid sales numbers in a short period of time, but I can't say that I'm convinced of its usefulness to the majority of people who purchase it.
Written by Dr. Suzanne Gudakunst, Top Secret Fat Loss Secret is a short read at 49 pages, and is focused around the concept of toxicity. The author's claim is that 'plaque' gradually builds up in our colon over the years, which is the result of harmful chemicals, pesticides, and preservatives found in large portions of the food we eat.
The toxins ultimately succeed in blocking off your body's ability to properly absorb vital nutrients, leading to 2 major reactions:
1) Your body starves no matter how much food you consume - so by not feeling full, you continue to eat, which only results in weight gain.
2) Your body thinks its starving, so your hypothalamus makes an effort to reduce your metabolism to burn food much slower in order to store fat.
The premise makes sense, and I can certainly see why it sells so well. It plays on people's fears that they have a parasite growing in their bodies, and in addition, it gives them a scapegoat. After all, according to the book, it's not your fault that you can't lose weight, it's the parasites' fault. Diet and exercise are factors, but the biggest factor is the plaque preventing you from losing weight.
It all seems too convenient to me.
How the Program Works
Because the toxins are preventing you from losing weight, the first step is to detoxify your colon. How do you do that? It ain't pretty . . . Ever heard of high colonics?
Once your colon is clear, you can begin to shed weight with dieting tips contained in this book. The tips are nothing new, but they contain solid advice on how to sensibly lose weight, but they certainly don't provide enough value to justify the price tag.
So if you subscribe to the toxicity belief, this could be a good program for you, as it describes the detoxification program along with some solid dieting advice. But if you're not interested in the detox angle, you'd be better off with a more comprehensive or easier to follow diet program.

Diet Leads To a Healthy Life
When you think about living a healthy lifestyle, what does that really mean? Basically it means getting in some moderate exercise on a weekly basis, eating a balanced diet, and quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption and maintaining a normal weight. To the average person who is strapped for time and busy with job and family commitments, maintaining your health may seem overwhelming. It does not need to be. As we will see, small changes in your daily living can mean big changes in your health.
A healthy diet is important to all of us but when you need to lose weight choose one of the top 10 diets. Trying the latest fad diet only to find it doesn't work and moving to another plan will end up having you putting weight on rather than losing any. By choosing a low diet plan that is proven to work you will find it easier to stick to because it works.
Excercise doesn't have to be a scary word. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, start slow and increase your activity level as you reach small goals you set for yourself. It may be just using the stairs at work instead of using the elevator. Over time, you might decide to walk for part of your lunch break. Eventually you may want to join a fitness center to increase your progress. Go at a pace you are comfortable with and enjoy.
If you are still a smoker you need to get on a cessation program. There are medications in pill, patch and gum form that can assist you in stopping. Talking to a counselor or adopting a quit-smoking buddy has been shown to help smokers quit smoking at higher rate than trying to go it alone. Side effects of smoking include rapid heartbeat, decreased circulation, and shortness of breath and more serious chronic diseases such as herat disease, emphysema and cancer can eventually develop.
Drinking some types of alcohol in moderation such as red wine has actually been shown to benefit the heart. However, consuming more than a glass or two a day can cause liver damage. The liver acts as a giant filter system of the body. When the filter is clogged, the body does not function properly. Jaundice, gallstones, blood clotting difficulties, organ failure and death can result when the liver is compromised.
Maintain a healthy weight for your body type by watching your diet and incorporating health fitness into your lifestyle. You can calculate your body mass index (BMI) by dividing your body weight by the square of your height, or a much simpler method is to use one of the many BMI calculators available online.
You've stopped thinking about your body and what you put into it. You're listless and you lack energy. Serious health issues may run in your family. Overwhelmed by what lies ahead? You can adopt a health fitness lifestyle by adding healthier food to your menu, integrating daily exercise into your routine, stopping smoking and drink a glass of red wine with a meal. To maintain a normal weight, you must increase your level of activity and eat a balanced diet. Set your goals and remind yourself that small changes add up to big results over time.

Portion Size
It is really easy to say but harder to do! All you have to do it watch your portions and do not overeat. You can also add in an exercise program if you are not exercising all ready. Hey get a head start on the New Year Resolutions.
Planning
Okay, so how can you keep your portions under control when everything tastes so good? That is where it can be more difficult as you know. You can make it easier by planning ahead before the Holiday meal.

Detox Diet Benefits
What to Expect when Detox Dieting
All detox diets are a little bit different. Some restrict food down to almost nothing while others allow for mostly veggies, beans, fruit, and rice. There are a few things that you should expect when beginning a detox diet, so that you can receive the full detox diets benefits.
Your body is significantly used to adjusting to toxins and poisons running through your body. One of the greatest detox diet benefits, naturally, is that you will rid your body of these toxins and poisons. There are side effects of receiving these detox diet benefits. If you are particularly used to that steaming cup of caffeinated beverage in the morning, you will experience caffeine withdrawal. While it may not seem like it while you are experiencing caffeine withdrawal, this is one of the detox diet benefits. Once your body has adjusted to the absence of caffeine, you should find that you have more energy.
Constipation is considered a leading cause of lethargy and fatigue. One of the detox diet benefits is the cleansing of the colon, which can cure even long term constipation. I had a room mate that was on narcotic pain relievers for over a year due to a severe injury. The narcotics kept her chronically constipated. The day she was finally through with her narcotic pain relievers, she went through a detox diet. She found that the detox diet benefits included relieving her body of the narcotic dependency as well as relieved her chronic constipation. She now regularly cleanses and detoxifies her colon when she is having difficulty going to the restroom, with obvious detox diet benefits as she returns from the restroom with a pleased grin on her face instead of the anguish she used to live in.
Even with the detox diet benefits, some people report feeling a bit weak about one week into the detox diet. Most detox diets do reduce food consumption, which can have an effect. The basic key is knowing how to elongate the effects of the foods you do eat. Those who really struggle with the lowered food consumption report that splitting the lunches into 2 meals works better for them than eating just the suggested breakfast and lunch. This still gives them the detox diet benefits but doesn't introduce additional foods into the scenario. Most detox diet experts state that provided you are not adding additional foods to the diet, segregating the meals into smaller snacks is perfectly acceptable.
The excessive water consumption associated with the detox diet is going to encourage your system to flush, which means you will be visiting the rest room much more often. This is a positive detox diet benefit. The more water that flushes your system the more toxins that will exit your body when you excrete it, and excreting it often will enhance the productivity of the entire process.
One of the little known detox diet benefits is the regeneration of the liver that can occur while following a detox diet. Milk thistle is typically recommended as part of the supplementation of the detox diet. Milk thistle aids in the liver's ability to regenerate. It's not a cure for liver disease, however it can help in the prevention of a liver disease, along with other changes to your lifestyle.
What Not to Expect when Detox Dieting
Detox dieting is designed to alleviate the ailments associated with large quantities of toxins that are built up in the human body. Detox dieting is not a "cure" for every disease. While most people experience great relief from every day annoying symptoms, detox dieting does not eliminate diseases that are already in the system. For instance, you can not rid you body of cancer cells by detox dieting. The cancer cells, for starters are not an actual toxin. They may have been caused by toxins, but the cells themselves are not something that can be flushed away.
Most people drop several pounds when detox dieting. There are those who drop a significant amount of weight when detox dieting. This is normal, and while some of it can be contributed to the flushing of fat cells, water weight, and calorie reduction, there is some permanent weight loss happening provided you do not return to eating habits that are probable for weight gain. This means that if you were prone to eating potato chips and cookies prior to detox dieting and you return to eating potato chips and cookies after detox dieting, you will gain the weight back. This may seem obvious, but there are plenty of foods that people believe contain a low calorie and low fat content but in reality they contain quite the opposite. An avocado for example contains nearly three times the amount of fat and calories as a measured serving of enriched white rice. While detox dieting, learn to recognize the foods you are putting into your body and what they actually do once they enter your gullet.
