High-end modern hair straighteners have ceramic heating elements, which cause less damage to hair, are more effective and heat up faster than non-ceramic coated heating plates. Less expensive brands usually do not have ceramic heating elements though some may have a paint-like coating that gives the appearance of ceramic plating.

* Begin by straightening your hair if it isn’t straight already. This will give you a "blank canvas" to work with.
* Divide your hair into sections. The more sections you make, the looser your curls will be.
* Clamp your hair straighteners over a section, trying to keep the heated plates as close to the roots as possible. As you pull your hair straighteners through your hair, turn them 180 degrees by rotating your wrist. Make sure you maintain an even, gentle tension on your hair. To produce tighter curls clamp harder, rotate the straightener more and increase the tension on your hair.
* Don’t brush your hair after curling - simply tease your fingers through it to add body and bounce.

Creating Flips With Your Straightener

Creating flips with your hair straightener is an easy technique that adds real character to any hair style. To create a flip in your hair, simply straighten your hair as normal, but, when you reach the tip, curve your hair straightener outwards to introduce a flip out, or inward to create a flip in. Here are some tips on how to apply beads to the hair, and put the snap on the end. With an easy beader, add beads to the stem in reverse order that you want them on the braid. Then take the end of the braid and insert it into the eye of the beader. Make sure it’s just the thinner end of the hair, not the fat part, since the fat part will not fit back through the beads. Then push the beads up the stem of the beader and over the hair that is through the eye. The braid will have to fold up to fit through the bead holes. Keep pushing the beads up and off the end of the beader. Make sure they fit snug on the braid, or keep a hold of the end of the braid so they don’t fall off! Then grab your snap, wrap the very end of the braid around the hinge a couple of times, and mash the closure onto the end wisps. There you have it! Your braid is now beaded! You can also choose to finish off the braid with a bead itself.

Little girls love everything purple, pink and pastel. Luckily, many beads come in mixes of purples and pinks, and snaps and beads come in pastel mixes, too. Some moms choose to mix up all the colors, and some like a more monochromatic look. You can have some fun mother-daughter time by sitting at the computer together and letting her pick out her own color combinations.

Hair snaps are a great way to finish off braids and twists in your child’s hair. These cool little doodads eliminate the need to hang large barrettes or ballies on the ends of the hair braids. Here is a tip for application: to use a hair snap simply wrap the very end of the braid or twist around the hinge of the snap once or twice, and capture what’s left of the hair in the closure. Most styles of snaps are very secure and will hold many beads on the hair. Hair beads are best put in the hair with the help of a beading tool. This works like a giant needle threader. Multiple beaders can be loaded with beads (a great task for kids who are getting their hair done!) and this makes styling go faster.

Hair care essentials are important to maintain hair that is styling. Of course proper moisturizing and oiling of the hair and scalp for children with kinky, dry hair is essential. But of course, different types of hair require different hair care techniques. Some people take down hair styles and wash the hair with only moisturizer, to just get debris out and "freshen it up." Always remember to moisturize and oil the scalp afterwards. Leave-in moisturizers or oil spritzes are a great way to make sure the hair stays moist and healthy on a daily basis.
