The Spell - screening update

The Spell will soon open in 17 cinemas across the country. New to the list are the Showcase cinemas in Derby, Peterborough and Dudley.

The National Press show screening for the film took place today and 17 film critics from the national daily and Sunday papers attended, including one very famous television film critic whose favourite film of all time is, allegedly, The Exorcist!

I hope you get the chance to listen to my soundtrack and the 3 songs specially written for the film.

If you’d like to see the film and make an evening of it, here’s a link to the screening times:

If you do see the film, I’d love to hear what you thought of my music ;-)

YOU CAN’T HIDE FROM WHAT’S INSIDE YOU!

You Cant Hide From Whats Inside You!

You Can't Hide From What's Inside You!

This post’s title is the new tagline for Carey Film’s new feature, The Spell.

From Friday 2nd October, The Spell is to be shown at 14 cinemas across the country from Paisley in Scotland to the West End of London and from Sunderland in the North East to Bristol in the South West.

Carey Films will be working flat out to get press and television coverage and will also be distributing around 500 small posters and 30,000 flyers in the cities where the film is to be shown (London, Leeds, Sunderland, Cwmbran, Leicester, Bristol, Coventry, Liverpool, Manchester, Newham, Paisley Reading and Hull).

If anyone wants to help with this, please do let me know - we need all the help we can get as the plan is to distribute these promotional materials in shops, offices, universities, etc. Drop me a line and I’ll pass it on to the film’s producer/director, Owen.

Meanwhile, keep popping back to the site as I’ll be putting up screening times as soon as I have them. Oh, and go and see the film - obviously!

Finally, if you haven’t voted (5 stars please!) for the film’s closing song, Moving On, go and do so now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNXOvHDz_GQ

Where You From?

Where You From?

Where You From?

The Yorkshire Post’s Arts Reporter, Nick Ahad, has just made his first short film - Where You From? - and it can be seen on my showreel page (http://www.alanjmoore.com/rave/myWimpy.html).

The film stars Deborah McAndrew from Coronation Street.

This was an enjoyable project and had one of the shortest deadlines I’ve ever worked to (a couple of nights!).  It goes to show just what can be achieved without a budget but an enthusiastic and talented cast and crew.

Hope you like my piano-based soundtrack too, of course ;-)

The Spell (Carey Films) Newsletter

Here’s an update on what’s going on in the world of ‘The Spell’ from Carey Films (original music by Yours Truly, of course!).

Please feel free to pass this newsletter/post on to interested parties and if you want any further information about the film, please get in touch at any time…

The first Spell Newsletter is ready! The first of what I hope will be many newsletters as the film begins it’s journey into the world. Below are the main points but if you would like to read the full version of the newsletter (with pretty pictures!) click on this link: www.careyfilms.com/thespell.html and then click on NEWSLETTER

TRAILER

So, moving on to the headlines, the first thing to mention is that the trailer for The Spell is now on YouTube and you can see it (and vote for it - anything less than 5 stars will not be considered acceptable!) by following this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alK1s6Kj-X4

OK, so that’s not mentioned in the newsletter but it only just happened!

IT’S EMMA’S STORY

For those of you that don’t know this, the story we tell in The Spell is based on a true story, the story of Emma Whale, a girl who phoned me about six or seven years ago wondering whether her story
would make a good film.

CINEMA RELEASE

The Spell opens in cinemas on 18th September, following its world premiere (assuming nothing changes between now and then!) and we will get our first taste of public reaction to the film. Getting a psychological thriller like The Spell to work is notoriously difficult but with three of the UK’s major cinema chains now saying they want to show the film in some of their cinemas, it clearly does work.

*CANNES*

Following our attendance at Cannes and screening The Spell there, we have received invitations to submit the film to two quite important film festivals (their Artistic Directors were at our first screening), so we’ve done that, no surprise there!

If this was forwarded to you and you would like to get the next newsletter direct, as soon as it is ready, send an email to: newsletter@careyfilms.com and we’ll add you to the list.

OK! That’s it, until next time! Now go and vote for the trailer - yes! Do it now! Here’s the link again:

All the best

Owen

The Spell: distribution deal

THE SPELL will be released later this year through Vue Cinemas and will open at their cinema in The Light in Leeds following it’s World Premiere.

For those of you who missed the BBC Look North interview on the 1st June, here’s a link to the clip:

Where You From?

My new score for a short film called ‘Where You From?‘ was completed in just two evenings!

The film is the work of Nick Ahad, the arts correspondent at the Yorkshire Post.

Nick was recently commissioned to make his first short film (it was a pitching competition run by the Bradford City Of Film project by an arts company called Fabric).

The film’s being screened at a premiere event in Bradford along with five other films.  It’s also being screened at the cinema tent at the Bradford Mela and hopefully will be screened at the National Media Museum.

I enjoyed this project a lot and I wish Nick all the best for the film and his filmmaking career.

To read more about the film, visit the Yorkshire Post website: Where You From?

The Spell: MIPTV, Cannes, BAFTAs and BBC Look North

The Spell

My latest film soundtrack (The Spell, Carey Films) went to MIPTV at the end of March  with a view to getting potential sales agents and distributors.  Carey Films received financial support for the outing from both Screen Yorkshire and UK Trade & Investment and were part of the UK Indies Pavillion.

Carey Films were also there trying to sell A Mind of Her Own (which also has the benefit of my soundtrack!) to television broadcasters.

The Spell will be going to the Cannes Film Festival & Market in a couple of weeks time and this will be the film’s first serious attempt at selling the movie to sales agents and distributors. The film will be screened twice in the Marche du Film.

Also, terms have been agreed for the theatrical release of the film through Vue Cinemas later this year.

The film will be now be eligible for the BAFTAs next year and Carey Films are intending to have a BAFTA campaign which will include sending DVDs of the film to all BAFTA members.

And finally… for those of you in Yorkshire, the film’s producer and director (Owen Carey Jones) will be interviewed live on BBC Look North at 6:30 pm on Friday 8th May and they will be showing one or two clips from the film during the interview.

Sounds encouraging!

Alan

Night Fishing at Leeds Young People’s Film Festival

Night Fishing is being screened at the Leeds Young People’s Film Festival next Thursday at 7pm.

This is a lovely short film by Joe Hepworth (Shot in the Dark Productions) and I enjoyed scoring the soundtrack enormously.

It’s being screened before the feature “Hey it’s Esther Blueburger“.

Hope everybody likes the support.  If you get to see Night Fishing, let me know what you think!

Alan
