If you have children then you may know that they like nothing more than spending their summer holidays down at the beach, building sand castles and splashing about in the sea. Such holidays can be great fun, but there are a number of issues that you’ll need to consider. In this article we take a look at holiday costs, child safety and keeping adults entertained too.
Let’s begin with the issue of cost, since this is likely to be very important. Here in the UK, most children do not have to attend school for around six weeks at the height of summer. As a result, this is a time of year when many parents decide to book holidays abroad with their kids. There is, however, one major problem with this scenario. Since many families are looking to travel at the same time of year, this is high demand for flights and accommodation. That means that prices will be higher too.
It can be difficult to avoid the issue of cost, but you can concentrate on getting a better holiday deal by being flexible when you come to make a booking. It certainly helps if you’re willing to make use of the internet as many online travel companies are able to offer significant discounts.
Some people like to book with a specialist tour operator. This can certainly take much of the stress out of the entire process of booking a holiday and some leading tour operators will offer additional extras, including entertainment for your children on the holiday. Do remember, however, that the safety of your kids may be a concern. Always check out what sort of entertainment is on offer and find out what levels of supervision will be like.
There is a danger that adults can become bored if they don’t like a beach holiday. In this case, you may want to choose a holiday destination that will allow you to do a bit of everything. You could, for example, spend some days at the beach but also find time to do things that you want. Also you’ll want to keep the children happy, a holiday should certainly be relaxing for you too.

PAPER ABSTRACT: Previous work has demonstrated the viability of applying offline analysis to interpret forearm electromyography (EMG) and classify finger gestures on a physical surface. We extend those results to bring us closer to using musclecomputer interfaces for always-available input in real-world applications. We leverage existing taxonomies of natural human grips to develop a gesture set covering interaction in free space even when hands are busy with other objects. We present a system that classifies these gestures in real-time and we introduce a bi-manual paradigm that enables use in interactive systems. We report experimental results demonstrating four-finger classification accuracies averaging 79% for pinching, 85% while holding a travel mug, and 88% when carrying a weighted bag. We further show generalizability across different arm postures and explore the tradeoffs of providing real-time visual feedback.

They call it the world's most popular historic motor race meeting and the only event of its kind to be staged in the romantic time capsule of the Fifties and Sixties. As well as recreating the golden era of motor sport, the Goodwood Revival offers exceptional wheel-to-wheel racing around a classic circuit, untouched by the modern world. The Goodwood Motor Circuit, which ranked alongside Silverstone as Britain's leading racing venue throughout its active years between 1948 and 1966, hosted contemporary racing of all kinds, including Formula One, the famous Goodwood Nine Hours race and the celebrated Tourist Trophy sports car race. On September 18, 19, and 20, the circuit will be staging an annual historic race meeting for the kind of cars and motorcycles that would have competed at Goodwood during 1948-1966. An honored guest will be the great Sir Stirling Moss, who turned 80 this year. One of every car that Moss raced in his long career will be on display and I have no doubt he'll give us some very quick demonstration laps.
This is racing as it used to be, for the circuit has been lovingly restored to its original form and consequently many of the 120,000 guests will dress in period costume. No modern vehicles are allowed within the circuit perimeter throughout the weekend. There are also theatrical sets that bring the past back to life. What I'm especially looking forward to seeing is the low-level flying display of WW2 aircraft; Lord March's Goodwood estate is so large that it has an airfield within the perimeter used by vintage aircraft. This year, however, there is one difference: I'll be there. A long-time dream about to be satisfied, which includes three days at the Wine Festivals by Germany's Moselle River, plus a week in London. Because I'll be away for two weeks and this is a vacation, the laptop stays at home. So, starting today, the number of blogs on Classical Drives will be reduced from three per week to two, on Tuesdays and Fridays. But take heart, my friends, things will get back to normal after I return from England on the 21st. And the good news is that I'll be bringing home some wonderful photos to show you.
