The YMCA of Greater Moncton Adopts New Vision and Mission
The YMCA of Greater Moncton Board of Directors recently, and unanimously, adopted new Vision and Mission for the organization during its last board meeting. The new vision and mission were created by the Strategic Planning Committee with input from many leaders and members and are at the hub of the organization’s strategic planning initiatives. The statements are based on the values that shape and inspire YMCA’s operations and clearly articulate its purpose and desired state of the organization.
"The vision and mission statements bring a new perspective and focus to the way the YMCA will be operated in the future," remarked YMCA of Greater Moncton’s CEO, Zane Korytko. "Having these securely in place, we have taken a bold step forward, positioning ourselves as a leading charity. We’ve always been dedicated to helping people attain good health through a healthy lifestyle and encouraging them to get involved in making their community a better place for everyone."

The YMCA of Greater Moncton held their 9th annual Literacy Luncheon, Wednesday April 22nd at the Ramada Plaza Hotel Convention centre. Sponsored by CIBC and in partnership with many community organizations, the YMCA recognized 48 outstanding youth literacy tutors from the Greater Moncton area.
The YMCA’s Youth Tutor Club was established in 2000 and offers free, confidential one-on-one tutoring to children from School District 2 in grade’s one through six who require assistance in improving their literacy skills. Each year, over 48 local high schools student from grades 9 -12 are recruited and trained as volunteers to provide this valuable service.
Both groups benefit, as tutors have an opportunity to develop leadership and the children improve upon their reading and writing skills, confidence and a positive attitude towards learning. The student’s also benefit from a positive role model, who seeks to instill values and plant the seed for life long learning. More than 500 tutors of the YMCA of Greater Moncton Youth Literacy Program has provided more than 25 000 hours tutoring to more than 500 children.
"The enormous generosity of our volunteer tutors is a reminder that each of us should devote time and effort to improving the lives of others. Moncton Youth Recreation Assistance Program (MyRap)
The City of Moncton, in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Moncton, launched the Moncton Youth Recreation Assistance Program (MyRap), at a press conference Tuesday April 28, 2009, held at the YMCA.
MyRap provides limited financial assistance for children to participate in recreation programs who could not otherwise afford the registration fee. The purpose for this program is to give every child and family the opportunity to participate in recreation activities.
“It is vital that every child be presented with the same opportunities regardless of financial ability, whether it be in recreation or the arts. Each person has a unique ability and it is our hope that MyRap will help foster this talent in an disadvantaged child in our city,” said Moncton City Councillor Paul Pellerin. “We are thrilled to be able to partner with the YMCA of Greater Moncton to provide this service for our residents.”
MyRap is the newest addition to the financial assistance portfolio at the YMCA of Greater Moncton, providing additional funding to help more children and youth participate in recreational activities. Other programs provided through the YMCA include JumpStart and KidSport.
“Each year, our YMCA helps over 1,500 families by providing them with direct financial assistance for our own program,” said Zane Korytko, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Moncton. “Now with MyRap, we can reach out to even more people in our community. Every child, regardless of their ability to pay fees or equipment, should be able to participate in any kind of activity or sport.”

Are you ready for Zumba !
Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic workout system that will blow you away. Achieve long term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour class ! Zumba may be spelled similarly to rumba, but this dance fitness craze actually has people doing cha-cha, merengue, salsa and mambo moves. Even people whose closest connection to Latin dance was doing the Macarena in 1996. This summer, members of the YMCA of Greater Moncton will be shaking and shimmying to an infectious Latin beat! Zumba, pronounced zoom-bah, has women and men of all age toning up, trimming down, and whittling their waists. While Zumba is aerobic, to call it exercise would be missing the point. Its avid fans -- and most need only one class to become one -- say doing Zumba is like being at a dance party.
