What are good ways to train for tennis?

What are good ways to train for tennis?
What exercises/routines?
What muscles/areas should I concentrate on more than others?

Thank you! :]

Jump rope! Very essential for tennis training. I jump rope for 45 minutes everyday. That’s harder than playing a 3 hour match and it definitely helps you stay on your toes during a match.

Suicides (sprints) are also very good for training. Tennis is all about changing directions in a split second so suicides are very useful.

Also you should have a strong core to play tennis. The core is center of your body, which is used for everything in tennis, especially the serve. So training for the core would just be sit ups and crunches and other ab workouts.

How can I tell if I’m at a beginner or intermediate tennis player?

I want to take classes at a tennis center, they have beginner, intermediate & advanced.
I know I’m not advanced but i don’t know if I’m a beginner or intermediate. I know the basics & have been playing.

What must you be able to do to be intermediate?

Get someone who knows tennis quite well to judge you.

Normally classes like that should have tryouts, then they see which difficulty suits you best.

What Type Of Sports Are Suitable For Asthmatics?

Sports are require to acquire skills of sharp co-ordination, agility, quick thinking and reflex reactions can be of enormous benefit to someone vith asthma. The stamina that comes with physical fitness is also an asset to anyone.

The training done by a boxer, gymnast or ballet dancer develops these, as well as flexibility, strength and concentration.

Boxing may seem an odd choice of activity for an asthmatic. However, consider the boxer’s loud expulsion of air when throwing a punch. This expulsion of air is made during an extreme effort, similar to that of a tennis player serving a ball, or a footballer kicking the ball, an athlete leaving the blocks or a squash player making a shot.

You will hear competitors in many sports make this often loud and obvious expulsion of air. It helps them relax immediately after the point of maximum impact.

The quick expulsion of air may not be exactly the same as the slower expulsion in the rythmic breathing pattern, but I believe that someone with asthma should choose a sport that involves breathing out at the time of maximum impact, or when intense effort is involved. However, sports that require longer and slower breathing out are even better.

Which sports are more suitable?

Football, basketball, cricket, gymnastics, netball, volleyball and ballet are suitable for asthmatics as they require short, quick bursts of effort.

In contrast long distance running, where sustained effort is needed over a considerable period, is an example of a sport that stresses asthmatics and aggravates their condition.

Likewise, scuba diving, skydiving and bungee jumping are not sports I would recommend to someone with asthma.

No matter what sport is the final choice – be it table tennis, badminton, softball, horse riding or whatever . . . they all need agility, concentration, flexibility and strength.

Regular exercise will start you on the stairway to better health, and will help your body reach its full potential and keep it there. Exercise should be dynamic, varied, accessible and without adverse side effects and don’t forget the ail-important factor of choosing one you really enjoy. If you disregard this you won’t keep the sport up

Whatever the activity, always keep your limitations in mind and conscientiously follow the breathing and relaxation techniques that you know.

Even though you may roughly know what are those suitable sports that are for asthmatics, but all these information will be of no use if no action is being taken.

Having the knowledge is not power, applying the knowledge is true power to free yourself the agony of having asthma again. You should never add to, or alter any component of your current asthma treatment without first consulting your physician.

However, many asthmatics that I know sometimes tend to take playing a sport for granted and they should be be conscious and aware that in order to have an asthma-free lifestyle, a proper and yet effective asthma recovery system is necessary. Even without a proper asthma management system, there will not be much asthma free lifestyle to hope for.

Applying the knowledge of what type of suitable are for asthmatics together with an effective asthma management system even your little one can use to enjoy asthma-free life once again.

Tennis Shoes Purchase And Feet Anatomy

While you are a talented tennis player and you doing well on any type of court, your tennis shoes might play an equally critical role in winning you crucial matches. Many professional tennis players will tell you that tennis is all about maintaining your balance while you swing.

A good pair of tennis shoes will help you strike a perfect balance between the control of your shots and power. Hence, you should buy tennis footwear that perfectly matches not only with the anatomy of your feet but also with the surface you play on. That is why professional players use different tennis shoes on different tennis court surfaces such as hard, clay, grass and carpet.

Buying the right tennis footwear is crucial to your winning games. Ill-fitting shoes can result in blisters and even ankle & knee pain. Worst of all, they will fail you in your game. Hence, follow these tips on how to buy your tennis footwear which will be in sync of your feet and help you play your best tennis.

Know Your Foot Type:

You can visit a podiatrist to know your feet type or figure it out yourself at home too. For instance, if the impression of wet feet shows a crescent-shaped foot print with little of no footmark made by your arch, you have a supinated foot. Usually, your shoes tend to wear down faster on the lateral side than your big toe. Moreover, supinated feet are wider and require tennis shoes that offer additional room in the forefoot and toe box. Additionally, you should look for tennis footwear that can provide extra cushioning to compensate for the high arches.

You have pronated feet if your foot impression shows that it`s completely filled in. Due to your flat foot, your shoes tend to wear out before the lateral part. You tennis footwear should give you extra support. Find a pair that has additional stability on the medial side or go for shoes with a mid-cut model.

You have neutral feet if your footprint impression shows a moderate amount or arch. This is most versatile and ergonomically efficient toot type. This being the most coveted foot type, you can play tennis in almost any shoes.

Understand The Shoes Anatomy:

After knowing your foot type, try to understand the footwear`s anatomy. Try different pairs to see that you feel comfortable at the upper against the top of your foot. Also, make sure youy shoes have a durable toecap especially if you tend to drag your toe while you serve. Moreover, you should put special emphasis on extra material along the medial portion of the upper if you have a habit of hitting your forehand from an open stance.

While checking the insole of your tennis shoes, make sure it provides extra cushioning as it is the part where foot rests on. If you are one of those players who are fiercely aggressive on court and give their shoes a good pounding, the midsole of your tennis shoes will wear down faster and you will soon feel the need chuck out those pair and go for a new pair of tennis shoes.

The outsole affects the traction especially when you play on the clay or hard court. Those who play mostly on the hard court should look for tennis shoes with outsoles with a wide variation in the design to get the best traction.

Weigh You Options:

Ideally, you would like your tennis shoes to be as light as possible. However, tennis footwear is usually heavier than other running shoes for the simple reason that tennis shoes have extra cushions and durable outsoles that add to the weight of tennis footwear. Buy two different pairs - one with a lighter weight and the other with a heaver weight. Practice with the heavier weight so that when you play real matches with the lighter tennis shoes, you will feel more comfortable to zip around the court.

Your First Chair Yoga Class in a Senior Center

Chair Yoga has become more popular in senior centers, but can also be found in nursing homes, physical rehabilitation units, adult day care centers, and some Yoga studios. However, the vast majority of us will attend a Chair Yoga class in a senior center.

You should consult your family physician and get the “go ahead,” before starting any exercise program. If possible, visit, or call the senior center, to find out about their policies and general guidelines. When it is your first class, it is a good idea to get into the front row, so you can clearly see and hear your Yoga teacher.

When you need extra advice, or have a particular health condition, you should talk to your teacher before, or after, the class. Your Yoga teacher will give advice and show modifications, throughout the class, but when you have questions that concern your safety and health, you should ask right away. This is not something that should be put on the “back burner.”

Within the senior center staff structure, there are volunteers, paid staff, and management. They are all extremely helpful. Seek help and you will find an abundance of it. If the business world ran like this, we would all be happy customers.

You don’t have to bring any special equipment to a Chair Yoga class. Most senior centers have more than enough chairs to accommodate everyone. Some Chair Yoga classes do use mats, as well as chairs, but this is more the exception than the rule. If the center uses mats, in part of the class, you will have to take your shoes off.

Most senior centers have hard floors with tile over cement. In this case, you should wear good sneakers, tennis shoes, or aerobic shoes. This will allow your shoes to grip the floor, to prevent potential slipping accidents. It also gives your feet and joints some cushion from the hard surface.
