Pac-Man Holidays

Not sure what sort of holiday gifts to get the other gamers on your list? This Pac-Man tree skirt is the perfect accessory to any gamer’s Christmas tree, and even those without a festive holiday plant can surely find some use for it. A miniature tablecloth, for holding all those holiday food gifts? A saddle for a very small horse?

Note–this tree skirt will not fit around this Christmas tree, which happens to be made of pure awesome.

Sonic the Hedgehog Meatballs

People don’t usually associate video games with food, unless it’s the chips and Mountain Dew all gamers are accused of subsisting on (hey, it’s not our fault junk food is so convenient!). However, during the height of Sonic the Hedgehog’s popularity, sometime in the mid-1990s, there was a custom line of Sonic the Hedgehog meatballs that somehow lasted for years being restocked in stores despite looking absolutely appalling. I actually remember seeing these in grocery stores when I was younger. I never tried eating them because they looked so gross, but it’s comforting to know someone took the time to photograph them (there’s a LOT of other Sonic merch photography on that site, as well, for the curious).

Arcade Games Come to Life!

Imagine if those arcade driving games you spent so much of your childhood playing worked like real cars

Designer Garnet Hertz is turning an old OutRun arcade cabinet into a functioning vehicle, installing wheels, motors, and other auto parts along with GPS sensors taken from an iPhone. He has even written custom software that will allow the game screen to display a real-time, real-life map guide of the surrounding territory using the GPS.

While he’s supposedly not planning on taking it out on the road in the interest of auto safety, I still hope he has insurance

Pac-Man Eats Your Apple

This Pac-Man custom decal set fits right in with the apple on the lid of Mac laptops. Anyone nostalgic for the greatest arcade game ever made (in my humble, unbiased opinion of course!) need only look at the back of their computer screen. And it’s not just for Macs–with a little DIY ingenuity, this cool computer accessory is for everyone. Just find an ordinary fruit sticker to put in the middle and you can decorate your PC too!

Playstation 3 Coffee Table

The honor of becoming household furniture no longer belongs solely to old Nintendo controllers. This handsome Playstation 3 table designed by Stephane Perruchon features two enormous PS3 controllers in place of legs, with a smooth glass top. This table, with its sleek lines and minimalist silhouette, looks like it belongs in a design catalog more than a gamer’s den, but who says we video game geeks can’t have good taste?! This would look great accessorized with a set of customized drink coasters shaped like the PS3 buttons, and even better with a built-in gaming system…

Xbox Cufflinks

These Xbox cufflinks are the perfect way to flaunt your gamer-geek pride even if you’re stuck in a business meeting. They aren’t “official” Xbox merchandise–if Microsoft ever decided to go into promotional apparel, we’d all be doomed to a nightmare world of pocket protectors and logo-embroidered white socks–but these cufflinks match the sleek look of the game system quite well. If only they glowed in the dark

Space Invaders Bag

The classic arcade game Space Invaders seems to come up pretty frequently on this blog [1, 2, 3], but can you really blame us? Those little pixelated aliens are so cute when they aren’t trying to blow up our planet…

The latest installment in our Space Invaders fixation is this shiny messenger bag, perfect for carrying around your laptop and accessories, games, books, small pets, and whatever else you can fit in there.

In an alternate universe, are there Space Invaders carrying computer bags with generic humans on them? That would be great.

Sega Lighters

This pair of Zippo lighters shaped like old Sega video game consoles is great for indulging your electronic nostalgia. If you’re looking for fond memories of Sonic the Hedgehog every time you light a stick of incense, nothing beats one of these. Now, where are the candles shaped like Sonic and Tails?

[Just remember to practice fire safety...]

World of Warcraft Tankard

This formidable-looking beer stein, which weighs about four pounds and holds almost two liters of liquid, is certain to delight World of Warcraft fans the world over when it is released at the beginning of next year–if they can tear themselves away from the computer screen long enough to drink out of it, that is! Found in the game (along with lots of celebratory alcohol) in Azaroth, the city host to the self-explanatory BrewFest celebration, it’s being turned into a real-life mug by BigBadToyStore. Given its size and heft, perhaps it should be pointed out that this tankard is not a toy

I doubt most obsessive WoW gamers will even be able to lift this, much less drink from it, but it certainly beats an ordinary glass. And though I’m not much of a WoW fan myself, if the Azarothean beer cups are this cool, I’d love to see what they use for wine accessories…

Meta-Schwag

For Electronic Arts’ new World War II spy game The Saboteur, electronics retailer GameStop has devised an innovative promotion to boost pre-release sales: in-game schwag. If you pre-order the game, you get a code that unlocks a secret weapon during play, an “exclusive Nazi knife” that enhances your ability to perform stealth missions.

Just remember–despite how realistic the knives on the promotional posters may look, you can’t take the schwag out of the screen! It’s probably for the best, though–edged weapons and mail order just don’t mix…
