Wired US visionary takes to the TEDx stage
Half an hour for tea and there's time for quick impressions of the after-lunch session.
We saw another video recording (following an earlier screening of Alain De Botton's talk at the TED held in Oxford), by the poet Rives, exploring the time 4am. He humorously drew out all sorts of historical and scholarly connections and coincidences surrounding the hour, like a Dan Brown who didn't take himself so seriously.

Our man in Amsterdam: Wired at TEDx
Lunch at TEDx Amsterdam gives everyone time to digest not only lovely sandwiches but the vast number of exciting thoughts provoked by the speakers. It's also a chance to meet some of the amazing guests who have been speaking on the stage. And just enough time after all of that to let our readers behind the scenes of TEDx.
The event is being held at the Royal Tropical Institute, which used to be known as the Colonial Institution, as Jan Donner, its President, told the audience in a short speech. Its mission now is less imperalistic: to alleviate poverty, engage in cultural exchange (and to that end we've already seen X Factor on the video screen, below) and promote sustainability. All these aims have been touched on throughout the course of the morning.

Smart businesses - Wired needs you
Wired is on the hunt for smart businesses to feature in our March issue.
We want to tell the stories of companies that have adopted innovative solutions to old and new problems, whether it's Procter & Gamble open-sourcing their research department, Virgin selling financial services as part of its lifestyle image, or a firm managing their organisation in a new, inspiring and Wired way.

Mini Motors: The Tamiya Sand Viper
Building and racing radio controlled cars is a strong and vivid childhood memory for me. Now my kids are getting a little older I've been keen to get them as enthused about these super-fast model kit cars as I am. It was with some excitement then that I tested the Tamiya Sand Viper - DT02 for Fusion Hobbies. Not only did it look the business, something about how those plastic parts all smelt took me right back to being ten again.

Five years of World of Warcraft marked by documentary
"A lot of players have what they perceive to be dead-end jobs. They log into these worlds and suddenly they’re somebody with power", says a gaming analyst of the people who play multi-player games online.
It's five years since World of Warcraft launched. It now attracts 50 million players around the world.
A documentary airing on Monday (November 23) at 10pm will look at its extraordinary growth and the impact it has had on the players, and tries to explain some of the social and psychological forces driving the expansion of massively mutiplayer online games.
