Are you thinking about going to nail tech school? Part 3
Are you thinking aboug going to nail tech school but you're afraid that you might not be able to build a clientele? Finally, and probably most importantly, the biggest factor in becoming a great nail tech is commitment. If you decide that you want to go to nail tech school, you will go and do well and it won't matter which school you go to, what the other students are like, or if you were the oldest in your class. If you have a passion for this industry, nail school will be what you make of it. Once you have gone to school and gotten all of your required hours and passed the state board exam, no one can take that away from you. Nail school can be exciting, and making the commitment and accomplishing your goal of a nail tech license will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

Are you thinking about going to nail tech school? Part 2
If you are thinking about going to nail tech school but you're afraid that you're not artistic enough, don't worry. You do not have to be artistic or even creative in order to go to nail school. Maybe you like the look of a beautiful set of nails, or maybe you love to pamper people and help them solve their problems. Applying a good set of nail enhancements requires patience and practice, not necessarily artistic ability. If you have a desire to provide someone with a great set of nails they can be proud of, you will eventually learn to do so. You do not have to provide fancy nail art or airbrushing to build up a loyal clientele. Providing a great set of pink and white nails is good enough to make a great income doing nails. You can also perform excellent manicures and pedicures and keep people coming back for more.

Nail technician programs can be part of a well-rounded Cosmetology program too.
If you are thinking about going to cosmetology school but you want to do nails too, or if you are thinking aboug going to nail school but you think you might also want to do hair and skin care, consider taking a full cosmetology program.

A full cosmetology program will focus on hair, skin care, and nails. Each part of the program will be specialized so that you will learn the most you can about each area. Because of the broad nature of the full cosmetology program, you will be taught the basics of nail care and enhancements, but you may not receive much advanced training. It is a good idea to take more advanced classes through nail product companies if you feel you did not get enough experience in the full cosmetology program.

Are you thinking about going to nail tech school? Part 1
Are you thinking about going to nail tech school but you're not sure where to start? Or maybe you're thinking about switching careers and you're intimidated because you think that everyone in class will be younger and know more than you. Well I have great news for you! Going to nail school can be an exciting and fun time for women and men of all ages, and it's not nearly as difficult as you think.

First, if you look at a couple of different nail tech or cosmetology schools, you will quickly realize that you will not be the only "adult" in class. In fact, many successful nail technicians start in the industry later in life. Even if you are the oldest student in your class, most likely you will not be the oldest student ever to attend nail school at your chosen academy. When you are older you take your courses more seriously, study harder, and focus more intently on being the best you can be. This is going to set you apart from others in your nail school, and in fact will help you build a clientele because clients will recognize how much effort you have put into honing your skills and providing great service.

Make the Decision to go to Nail Tech School
Most people consider starting a career as a nail technician for a long time before they actually make the decision to go to nail tech school. The best advice I can give you is to visit a few nail tech schools or cosmetology schools in your area and spend some time there. Visit the schools at different times of the day and see what types of students attend.

Some people are afraid they won't fit in if they attend nail tech school; that the students are way younger than them or are more committed than they are. Or that learning nail technology or cosmetology is too intimidating and they won't be able to learn because they have been out of school for so long. Visiting schools will help you realize that the more dedicated you are the more you will learn, and that people from all ages and all walks of life are interested in the same things you are.

Going to nail tech school will open your life up to a whole world of possibilities you had never considered! The freedom of making the decision after thinking about going to nail tech school for so long will be rewarding and exciting. Take the plunge!

What You Will Learn in Nail Tech School
Nail tech school curriculum is dictated by your State Board of Cosmetology. Some of the things you will learn in nail tech school are:

-sanitation
-basic manicuring
-basic pedicuring
-acrylic nails
-gel nails
-fiberglass nails
-sculpting
-applying tips
-basic hand and foot massage
-handling clients
-basic business skills

Most programs in nail tech school are geared towards helping you pass the State Board exam. Whatever is required by your State Board of Cosmetology will be taught by the school. You will practice taking the hands-on nail tech exam, as well as the written exam. Some schools will have practice exam drills on a regular basis to help you get used to performing manicuring services under pressure.

Tuition at Nail Tech Schools and Cosmetology Schools
The amount of tuition required by nail tech schools can vary widely by community. Depending on the nail tech school, the tuition can range anywhere from $1000 to over $7 or $8000. Full cosmetology programs can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000.

Tuition for nail tech school depends on the amount of hours required by your State Board of Cosmetology, the location of the school, the average amount of students in the school, and the amount of hands-on training you will receive in the nail tech program. Smaller nail tech schools may have higher tuition because you will receive more one-on-one training. Larger nail tech schools may have lower tuition because there are more students and therefore more revenue coming into the program. If a nail tech school has excellent teachers and a highly structured program it might come with a higher cost just because of supply and demand.

Length of Nail Tech School Programs
The average length of a nail tech school program is three to six months. Some nail tech school programs can take longer depending on how many hours you can set aside to go through training every week. If you go to nail school as part of a larger cosmetology program, it could take 14 months to 2 years to get your cosmetology license. Many nail school programs and cosmetology programs have flexible schedules, which means if you can only go to nail tech school a couple of nights a week, or a couple of hours a day, it could take up to a year for you to get your required hours in manicuring.

The amount of hours required at nail tech schools depends solely on how many hours are required by your State Board of Cosmetology. Each state has it's own requirements for the amount of hours to be completed in nail technology. Once the required hours are completed, you then have to take the State Board of Cosmetology exam in nail technology. Most nail schools will spend a lot of time preparing you for this exam to ensure that you pass.
