Nick Saban, Hollywood Star!?
From Don Kausler, Jr.: Birmingham News
TUSCALOOSA - The countdown continues. The big event is almost here for Nick Saban. Saturday's LSU game?
No, the premiere of "The Blind Side." The movie opens on Nov. 20, and it stars the Alabama football coach. (See trailer. And see Saban in this one.)
OK, so it's a cameo appearance. But it is Saban's acting debut, and he grinned when he was asked about the experience on Wednesday.
Specifically, Saban was asked if he was given any creative input into the dialogue, in particular, as it relates to Sandra Bullock's character, who said about Saban, "I find him extremely handsome."

Saban Bowl III???
The following article by Christopher Walsh discusses Saban Bowl III, which you can read below. This year, it's not about Saban vs. LSU, it's about Alabama vs. LSU in a Top 10 matchup that will determine who plays Florida in the SEC Championship Game.
By Christopher Walsh TUSCALOOSA _ When the beat writers covering the University of Alabama football team found out that senior cornerback Javier Arenas once took a sports writing class, they asked what headline he would write regarding Saturday' game against No. 9 LSU at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Saban Bowl III?
"Nah," said Arenas, and the reporters apparently felt the same way because neither head coach was asked Monday about Nick Saban facing his former team again.

Kiffin Reprimanded by SEC...Again
Tennessee Coach Lane Kiffin has been publicly reprimanded again by the SEC.
This is the second time this year that Kiffin has been reprimanded by the SEC. The first took place earlier this year when Kiffin accused Florida's Urban Meyer of "cheating" while recruiting.
According to SEC policy, a third reprimand could result in suspension.
The second reprimand came after Kiffin said the following in an interview with the Knoxville News-Sentinal:
"To me the rule is this: If a play is still going on, you can't take your helmet off. The play is still going. The ball is sitting there. If Luke (Stocker, UT tight end) sees the ball he can pick it up and go score a touchdown and we win the game. The guy (Cody) throws his helmet, then two of their guys go recover the ball...It's a 15-yard penalty and we kick again."
The rule states that the penalty would actually be enforced on the next-play in the game. The time ran out in the game, therefore the penalty could not be enforced.
The following is a copy of Kiffin's public reprimand issued by the SEC on Monday:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 26, 2009) – Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to University of Tennessee head football coach Lane Kiffin for his public comments concerning officiating Sunday.
"Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics," Slive said. "SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from all public criticism of officials."
"This is the second reprimand for Coach Kiffin in this calendar year. Coach Kiffin is on notice that for any further violations of SEC policies will subject him to additional penalties including suspension."

Alabama defeats Tennessee 12-10
From RollTide.com TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior nose guard Terrence Cody blocked a field goal as time expired – his second blocked kick of the game – to preserve No. 1 Alabama’s (8-0, 5-0 SEC) 12-10 win over Tennessee (3-4, 1-3 SEC) and keep the Crimson Tide’s hopes of an undefeated season alive.
Tennessee moved into field goal range on a 23-yard catch by tight end Luke Stocker after recovering an onside kick with 1:19 remaining. The Volunteers lined up for a 44-yard field goal attempt with four seconds left when Cody burst through the line and got a hand on Daniel Lincoln’s kick to save the game for the Tide.
Alabama appeared to have the game in hand with a 12-3 lead and the ball with 3:43 remaining, but Tennessee safety Eric Berry forced a Mark Ingram fumble and Tennessee recovered. Tennessee moved down and scored on an 11-yard touchdown reception by Gerald Jones to cut the lead to two points. With no timeouts left and 1:19 remaining, Tennessee was forced to go for the onside kick, which they recovered setting up the eventual field goal try.
“We did not finish the game and finishing things like we want,” said Alabama head coach Nick Saban. “The last three 3:29, to fumble the ball, they score on a busted coverage and get the onside kick, so for us to get the blocked kick was a great effort not only that time, but the time we did it before the half.”

What we learned about Alabama in this game: Nick Saban and Jim McElwain need to come up with a solution to Alabama's struggling offense before the LSU game in 2 weeks.
Lance Thompson: "I want to kick their ass"
From GoVolsXtra.com
Lance Thompson downplayed the question when a reporter asked if this was a weird week for him.
“Is what weird for me? Talking to you or playing Alabama,” the Tennessee linebackers coach said with a southern drawl and sly grin. “It ain’t weird. To be honest with you, I feel privileged.
“Hell, it’s a great series. Now I get to play on the other side.”
Hence the line of questioning. Just a season ago, Thompson was wearing crimson, not orange. The two trademark colors collide when Alabama hosts UT on Saturday.
“I know the Tennessee people want me to hate all them guys,” Thompson said. “I’ll just hate them for that three hours. I’m not that kind of guy.
“I want to win. I want to go compete. I want to kick their ass."

Alabama vs. Tennessee Game Notes
ALABAMA (7-0, 4-0 SEC) VS. TENNESSEE (3-3, 1-2 SEC) SATURDAY, OCT. 24 • 2:35 P.M. • CBS BRYANT-DENNY STADIUM (92,012) • TUSCALOOSA, ALA.
THE GAME:
The AP No. 1 (No.2 in BCS) University of Alabama football team continues a three-game Southeastern Conference homestand with a visit from the Tennessee Volunteers, on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. on CBS with Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and Tracy Wolfson calling the action. Eli Gold, Phil Savage and Barry Krauss will have the radio call on the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
THE ALABAMA-TENNESSEE SERIES:
Alabama leads the all-time series with Tennessee, 46-38-7, in a series that dates back to the 1901 season. The Crimson Tide has won the last two meetings and seeks its third straight series win for the first time since a seven-game winning streak from 1986-92. Alabama posted a resounding 41-17 win over the Tennessee on Oct. 20, 2007, in Tuscaloosa and followed that up with a 29-9 win last season in Knoxville. The first meeting took place Nov. 28, 1901, in Birmingham, when the two schools played to a 6-6 deadlock. Alabama posted an 8-1-1 record in the first 10 meetings with Tennessee, including eight shutouts, before the series was halted from 1915-27. The series resumed on Oct. 20, 1928, the first of 66 consecutive meetings on the third Saturday in October, with Tennessee claiming a 15-13 win in Tuscaloosa. Alabama won 11 consecutive games (1971-81) over Tennessee to gain the upper hand in the series. The 2009 meeting is the ninth in series history in Tuscaloosa. The Tide and Vols have met every year since 1928, with the exception of the 1943 season when neither school fielded a football team due to World War II. Tennessee posted a seven-game winning streak (1995-2001) over Alabama, marking the Vols longest winning streak in series history, also the longest by any opponent against Alabama. UA snapped that streak with a 34-13 win in Knoxville in 2002.
THIRD SATURDAY IN OCTOBER:
For 66 years the annual Alabama-Tennessee game was simply referred to as “The Third Saturday in October.” Alabama and Tennessee first played on the traditional third Saturday date Oct. 20, 1928. The tradition continued through the 1994 season. In 1995, the Southeastern Conference Office realigned its conference football schedule, putting an end to the 66-year tradition. The Oct. 14, 1995, game was played on the second Saturday in October. Since 1996, Alabama and Tennessee have met on the third Saturday in October six times, including the 2006 and 2007 games. The 2008 and 2009 games took place on the fourth Saturday in October. The series became so popular that the late Al Browning, former sports editor of The Tuscaloosa News and Knoxville News-Sentinel, wrote a book entitled Third Saturday in October, recapping each game in this tradition-rich football series.
